SEC Provides New “Application Programming Interfaces” (“APIs”) That Consolidate Financial Statement Data And Make Other Enhancements To Improve Public Enterprise Disclosure On The Collection, Analysis, And Retrieval System SEC Electronic Data Database (“EDGAR”).

In his announcement, the SEC described “open data enhancements” intended to make “corporate disclosures faster and easier to use for developers and third-party services.” APIs provide enhanced public access to annual and quarterly reports, Forms 8-K, 20-F, 40-F and 6-K. Additionally, the SEC said APIs will make it easier for developers and third-party services to build web or mobile applications for retail investors.
